Day Two

Ta-Da! I have made it two days. Are you proud? You don't need to be; I am. Woohoo!

Okay, enough celebrating. Today was a long day, but a nice dinner, nap (erm 2 hour sleep), and a 45 min workout helped prime me for the task at hand. I must make this quick because the cat wants in now.

  1. Tanning gunk that I bought off of an infomercial. Yes, I watched the home shopping network once. I used it for a bit until I realized it was as crappy as every other self tanner.
Ok, mac I'm coming!

Bye!

I'm adding a bit here...after letting the cat in of course. Wow! I just made myself sound like a crazy cat lady with too much crap in the house. Oops! I just wanted to mention that I had spoken about the project and I realized that this blog will help me to analyze why I attach so much meaning to materialistic items. So, I appologize for the mediocrity of this blog. Every once in a while we have to mediocre. So, whether or not I am, I have decided that this blog is merely meant to help me gain a leg up on one part of my life.

With all I have to do this year, I fear I may lose my mind. So, this blog is more for me rather than anyone else, but again, any helpful motivation will be greatly appreciated!

Day One: The initial purge

Hello internet world!

Whether or not anyone reads this, I will post a blog a day for the remainder of the year. This is not my New Year's Resolution. I just looked around my house and decided it was too cluttered. Then I came across the 100 item challenge. I was intrigued. Then, I was scared. My heart began to race and I felt my dream of ditching useless items fading. Whoa! Slow down there. I would like to live minimally, but that might take a cross country move; with a small budget. So, I came up with the idea of the one-a-day item toss. Start slow, see results. By the way, my resolution was to exercise once a day.

So, I will toss one personal item a day. I suppose I will have to lay ground rules for this...I had thought collections should be counted as one item, but I have discovered that I am too clingy. So, for now, even removing one item from a collection counts.

Rules:
  • cannot include regular clean-up
  • has to be a personal item (only items that are solely mine)
  • has to have some meaning (longevity counts as meaning)
Since, I am beginning 10 days into the year, I guess I will have to find 10 items. I'll be right back! Okay, starting small, but this was actually difficult!

  1. A cinnimon candle from years gone by. It still looks pretty but it really only gets lit once a year. Goodbye!
  2. A soy candle that was a gift from someone. It smells funny. Don't really know why I have kept it.
  3. A ball of yarn and crocheting needles. At one point I actually thought I had time...ha!
  4. A bag of paint brushes. Maybe $5 worth of stuff...been used once for a big project.
  5. A Christmas headband that I thought was cute, but really made me look like a dork.
  6. 3 decorating pens (took them to use and never did)
  7. 3 glass paints (bought for friends graduation to decorate his car...3 years ago)
  8. School folder...used 10 pages
  9. A vase for flowers I never have
  10. A weekly calendar thing from last year, meant to help me stay organize
I know those sound pathetic, but I really had to look for useless stuff. This is going to be harder than I thought! I will have to do this daily, because trying to find more than one item hurts my head! Okay, talk to you tomorrow!
